In April, we issued guidance to help providers and schools reduce the impact of COVID-19 on initial teacher training (ITT) provision. We confirmed that trainees making adequate progress towards the teachers’ standards should be recommended for QTS at the end of their course.

We have now updated the guidance to confirm availability of course extension funding for trainees whose courses were disrupted by COVID-19, and who are not awarded QTS in summer 2020 as a result.

Schools and ITT providers should take steps to enable these trainees to complete their training in the autumn term 2020. We are making course extension funding available for these trainees.
