Wednesday 10th July 2019

10:30am – 3:00pm (registration and refreshments from 10am)

Friends House – 173 Euston Road, London. NW1 2BJ.

This workshop has been designed by the project team behind the development of NASBTT’s new ‘Subject Knowledge and Curriculum Design Toolkit’. Its aim is to give ITT providers an opportunity to reflect on their subject and phase specific provision for trainees and on their and trainees’ work on ‘curriculum design’ whilst developing an enhanced understanding of how to provide this aspect of ITT provision and share practice with colleagues.

The session will include:

  • An introduction to the thinking and practices which have informed the development of NASBTT’s new ‘Subject Knowledge and Curriculum Design Toolkit’;
  • Opportunities to explore the resources included in NASBTT’s ‘Subject Knowledge and Curriculum Design Toolkit’ and consider their application in their setting;
  • Discussions with colleagues and Toolkit developers to consider the practical and strategic implications of using the Toolkit;
  • Opportunities to share practice and problem-solve with colleagues;
  • Examples of excellent practice in ITT subject training and curriculum design, including through case studies.

The case studies considered will be from a range of school placement and provider settings.

The key objectives of the workshop are:

  • How to make the best use of NASBTT’s ‘Subject Knowledge and Curriculum Design Toolkit’;
  • How to develop approaches to subject knowledge and curriculum design training which are meaningful and enable trainees to sustain their own development in this area of their practice beyond the training year;
  • To share practice, ideas and challenges in this aspect of ITT provision with ITT provider colleagues;
  • To consider the opportunities afforded by NASBTT’s ‘Subject Knowledge and Curriculum Design Toolkit’ for both practical and strategic development of ITT provision in your context.

Delegates will receive a copy of resources from the workshop.  Part of the workshop will include a ‘teach meet’ style session: delegates will be asked to bring an example of their provision’s work and/or a resource to share for this part of the session (full details of this will be included in the joining instructions for this event).
