DfE are keen to form a focus group from among our membership in regard to the CPD standard. We invite expressions of interest from those of you who are interested in contributing to this dialogue.
The DfE have provided the following information:
You may be aware that the CPD Expert Group, convened in 2015/16 to develop the Standard for Teachers’ Professional Development, have been brought together again to provide recommendations to Ministers on how the DfE may better support schools embed the CPD standard. The DfE is holding meetings with sector experts and practitioners to help shape these recommendations.
This work follows from the recent ‘Strengthening QTS and improving career progression’ consultation (2018), which exposed patchy implementation of the standard and the need for greater support for all teachers and school leaders. To date, the expert group has helped with the initial problem diagnosis and, following a series of 1:1s with schools, universities and training providers, education organisations, we now have a rough outline of recommendations. However, we need to make sure that these recommendations will work in practice, so this next stage of development is vital.
If you would like to express an interest in joining this focus group, please complete the Google Form which can be found here by 12 noon on Wednesday, 15th May 2019.
In putting together the focus group, we will be looking at a diversity in terms of geographical location, cohort sizes and subjects/phases offered, as well as experience of designing and facilitating CPD beyond the ITT year including leadership training.
The focus group meeting will take place on Wednesday, 22nd May 2019, 11.30a.m. to 1.30p.m., in London. The DfE is unable to cover travel costs, but refreshments will be available.
We will advise you on the morning of Thursday, 16th May 2019 if you have a place on the focus group.
