Retaining more teachers is crucial for the English education system when there are not enough teachers coming in to the profession to meet the growing need from rising pupil numbers.

In partnership with the Teacher Development Trust, NFER has conducted the first large-scale quantitative study in England to look at teacher autonomy and its relationship to workload, job satisfaction and retention. Jack Worth, School Workforce Lead at NFER, shares seven key findings from the research, published yesterday.
