Calum is the Executive Director for Research and Best Practice. Calum leads a team of researchers who work throughout the NIoT to design and deliver impactful research on the professional development of teachers and leaders. He is the PI of a Nuffield Foundation project, TIDE, which is looking at how schools' data can be used more effectively for insights into teaching. Methodologically, he is interested in reasoned ways of using research effectively, and is focusing substantively on the evaluating programmes for the development of executive leaders. He joined the NIoT from an academic career at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, where he focused on evaluations of complex interventions in health, disability-inclusion and education. Calum also spent a year at the Education Endowment Foundation and remains a member of its Evaluation Advisory Group.
