Matthew Armstrong
Assistant Director - Primary, Ripley ITT
I have worked in teaching for 10 years, initially starting as an NQT in Year 5 before teaching across KS2 and moving to my second school where I taught in a mixed-age Year 5/6 class. During my time across both schools, I held responsibility for three subjects: English, geography and MfL. Additionally, I held a TLR for assessment across the school.
My involvement with Ripley ITT began when I undertook an SLE role helping develop teachers across their partnership schools. This led to delivering subject training to their primary trainees for English and some generic pedagogy sessions, and eventually I secured a secondment, one day a week, to help run their primary programme. In 2022, I secured a full-time post at Ripley ITT as the Assistant Director in charge of the primary programme and was incredibly proud to be part of the team that secured an Outstanding judgement from Ofsted in the summer term of 2023. I now fully see my future in teacher training, as being part of the journey trainees take from all walks of life to their recommendation for QTS is brilliant. Coupled with this, I thoroughly enjoy keeping up to date with and disseminating the latest pedagogy and practice!
