The DfE-funded Transition to Teach (T2T) programme, delivered by Cognition Education, supports career changers into and through their ITT and NQT years to aid their retention as part of the DfE’s wider teacher recruitment and retention strategy. We have now had two cohorts of professionals retrain as teachers and use their extraordinary skills and knowledge to inspire the next generation of pupils. At T2T, we passionately believe that individuals with previous career experience, across all sectors and industries, have masses of talent that can be redirected into teaching. With real-world knowledge of how learning can be used in future careers, we truly appreciate the size of the impact career changers can make in the classroom. You can read case studies of our current and former participants on our website here.
We are now recruiting for our 3rd cohort of participants who will be starting their ITT this September. Career changer trainees may be entitled to access the support from the T2T programme along with the support from their chosen initial teacher training (ITT) route. T2T offers a complementary layer of bespoke support and guidance to career changers, who benefit from specialist one to one support from a dedicated GDA with a strong leadership background in education, who will be with them every step of the way throughout their training and work in partnership with training staff (tutors / mentors etc.) at our partner ITT providers to ensure a smooth transition into a teaching career. T2T participants also have access to exclusive events, career development planning, financial advice, and support with finding and applying for their first teaching posts. As this is a DfE-funded programme, there is no cost to ITT providers for our support.
Our eligibility criteria
To be eligible for our T2T programme, trainees must:
- Have accepted a place (or be working with a Teacher Training Adviser (TTA) from Get into Teaching to apply for a place) with an ITT provider in the North East, Yorkshire & Humber, North West or East Midlands for starting ITT in September 2021
- Be training to teach Secondary Chemistry, Computing, Maths, MFL or Physics
- Have five years career experience outside of education, including a minimum of one year of management/leadership experience
To request T2T‘s support, trainees need to express their interest on our website here. We will then be in touch to determine their eligibility and discuss their next steps. Please ask trainees to answer ‘My Initial Teacher Training provider’ to the question ‘How did you hear about us?’ when registering their details.
Please inform any of your eligible trainees about our support and encourage them to register their interest with us asap.
