Oxfordshire Teacher Training, formally The Cherwell OTSA SCITT, is an accredited initial teacher training provider (SCITT) working with schools across Oxfordshire www.oxfordshireteachertraining.co.uk. The SCITT was graded as ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted in December 2017 and continues to grow in size and reputation. It is part of the River Learning Trust and is based primarily at The Cherwell School in Oxford. This year the SCITT is training over 110 Associate Teachers (trainees) in approximately 70 schools and about half of those are training in the primary phase.

We are seeking to appoint a Primary Subject Specialist to work closely with our Primary Programme Leader in delivering an exceptional programme of subject specific training.

The Primary Subject Specialist will have responsibility for the design, delivery and evaluation of all of aspects the Primary Subject curriculum including ensuring that there are effective mechanisms for establishing that Associate Teachers are well supported in learning and remembering key subject knowledge and subject pedagogy. Alongside this the Primary Subject Specialist will also have a key leadership role in the central SCITT team. Full details are set out in the Job Description and Person Specification.

The SCITT has been at the forefront of developments in Initial Teacher Training since it was formally accredited by the DfE as an ITT provider in 2013 and is highly regarded by trainees, partnership schools and the education system more broadly. Ofsted reported; ‘The leadership of the SCITT is outstanding. The director and his team are committed to excellence. Their clear moral purpose and drive have secured an excellent reputation for the partnership in a very short time’, and ‘Leaders are completely dedicated to producing outstanding teachers for state schools locally and further afield. They are relentless in ensuring that the partnership continues to improve’.

The SCITT is a dynamic and thriving organisation and we have a fantastic central team of colleagues who coordinate our exciting and important work across a diverse partnership of schools. As we continue to grow we have developed two training hubs in Banbury and Henley, alongside our base Oxford. The Primary Subject Specialist will need to be able to travel relatively freely to all three locations.

This is an exciting time for the SCITT and this role offers an excellent opportunity to be part of a thriving, system leading organisation and should you wish to be part of the next stages of our development we welcome your application.

It will be essential that the successful candidate is able to work on Wednesday and Thursday of each week. There is potential for further days on an ad hoc basis.
