The Universities Council for the Education of Teachers (UCET) today announced that Stefanie Sullivan and Joanna McIntyre will be taking over as joint Executive Directors following the retirement, after 22 years, of James Noble-Rogers. The new postholders, who both currently work at the University of Nottingham, will take up their positions on 13 April. Stef is currently Chair of UCET, and this position will be taken by Lisa Murtagh from Manchester University until a new Chair is elected in September. James Noble-Rogers will continue to provide support to UCET for an interim period.
Jo will remain as a full Professor in the School of Education at Nottingham after she takes up her post at UCET but will be working part-time focusing on research (in refugee education and teacher education policy) and as co-leader of the RISE research centre – the Centre for Researching Inclusion and Social Justice in and through Education. Stef will be leaving Nottingham, after 23 years in the School of Education. The plan is that she will be an Emeritus Professor, continuing to support the University with local civic activities.
James Noble-Rogers said in response to the announcement: ‘This is an excellent appointment. I have worked closely with both Stef and Jo, and I know that they are the perfect choice to lead UCET into a new era’. University teacher education providers in the UK do a brilliant job, despite many challenges, working with schools and colleges to develop the next generation of teachers, designing and delivering high quality initial teacher education and CPD programmes and conducting groundbreaking education research. We look forward to building on what has already been achieved and to strengthening the teacher education base on which schools and colleges depend.’
