Some qualified overseas-trained teachers can apply for qualified teacher status (QTS) in England without further training or assessment through the apply for QTS in England service.
From 9 September 2026, teachers who trained in Ghana, India or Nigeria are no longer eligible to use the Apply for QTS service.
This is because these countries do not have a national regulator, or over 70% of applications from teachers trained there cannot meet our eligibility requirements.
