Overview

Join us for a dedicated NASBTT Member Workshop exploring different approaches to mentor training in Initial Teacher Training (ITT). This workshop will provide an opportunity to reflect on what is working well, identify challenges and share best practice through case studies from providers using different mentor development models.

Effective mentor training is a cornerstone of high-quality ITT provision. With varying approaches across the sector, this workshop will offer insights into successful strategies, potential pitfalls and the impact of different training methods. Attendees will hear directly from ITT providers using NASBTT’s Mentor Development Modules (MDMs) and those implementing alternative approaches, offering a balanced view of what works and what doesn’t.

  • Exploring different mentor training models
  • Case study: experiences from an MDM user – successes, challenges and impact
  • Case study: a provider not using the MDMs – alternative approaches and lessons learned
  • What’s working well in mentor training and why?
  • Common challenges and solutions in mentor development
  • Interactive discussions on embedding effective mentoring practice

The workshop will include case study insights from providers using different mentor training approaches, interactive discussions and practical reflections. Attendees will have the chance to engage in peer learning, share their own experiences and explore strategies to enhance mentor development within their ITT programmes.
