On 29 April, the Children’s Wellbeing and Schools Bill received Royal Assent and is now The Children’s Wellbeing and Schools Act 2026. Clause 53 of the act will make changes to the QTS and statutory induction requirements in primary and secondary academies from 1 September 2027.

In the autumn term 2026, The Department for Education will update the associated regulations (secondary legislation) and publishing full guidance to schools on the QTS and statutory induction requirements.

Ahead of that, this briefing provides a summary of the upcoming changes for schools.
