As part of the four-year Mission 44-funded project, Increasing Diversity in ITT, Being Luminary, Chartered College of Teaching and Chiltern Learning Trust have developed an online course that is now LIVE.
This online course, aimed at educators, leaders and mentors working in initial teacher training in UK contexts, explores the systemic barriers faced by trainees from global majority backgrounds when applying for and completing training, and provides language, tools and frameworks for embedding equity in teacher training. Organised into three modules: recruitment, retention and assessment, the course addresses key areas where research shows trainees face systemic barriers and racism.
While aimed at those supporting global majority trainee teachers, we know from feedback that it is also useful in supporting any teacher or leader from the global majority working in the teaching profession.
