The Centre for Race, Education and Decoloniality at Leeds Beckett University will be hosting this conference based on the framework developed through a research project led by Professor Heather J Smith (Newcastle University) and Professor Vini Lander (Leeds Beckett University) with research support from Marsha Garratt.  The Framework was devised in light of the research findings and is written to instigate and implement systemic change in ITE/T with respect to race and racism.

This conference will offer:

An opportunity to learn more about the Framework research, structure and implementation.

The conference workshops will showcase emerging good practice with reference to use of the Framework and enable discussions on how it could be developed to better meet the needs of student/trainee teachers, mentors and teacher educators.

It will enable wider discussions on long standing issues related to race in ITE/T such as diversifying the teaching profession, mentor training, safeguarding Black and global majority students/trainees on placement etc.

There will be workshops and contributions from the following speakers:
