The Chartered College of Teaching, Chiltern Learning Trust and Being Luminary, with funding from Mission 44’s Diversity in Education Fund, are inviting SCITTs to express their interest in participating in a coaching support programme.
The goal is to increase the acceptance rate of ethnic minority teacher training applicants and their successful completion of QTS by addressing issues such as unconscious bias, inequitable application and assessment processes.
Your assigned coach, a Fellow of the Chartered College of Teaching, will work alongside your SCITT as you assess ITT applicants through to the awarding of QTS to increase your skill and confidence. They may provide 1-2-1 or group sessions as appropriate.
You can expect a neutral expert who you can talk to and who will work alongside your staff to offer practical advice and guidance. You may call on them to review your recruitment processes, sit in on interviews, talk through causes for concern, help improve your collaboration with placement schools and audit your awarding of QTS. This coaching support will sit alongside and complement a programme of online training which all SCITT staff, induction tutors, mentors, leaders and other placement school staff will have access to. You will also become part of a community of SCITTs working together to address this important issue of inequity in ITT recruitment and retention and ultimately building a more diverse and representative teacher workforce.
With the funding from Mission 44, this coaching support will be available to you free of charge. Please complete this form to indicate your interest. In the first year, at least 10 SCITTs will be selected, and we aim to work with 40 SCITTs across the country over 4 years. The support is designed to be accessible virtually, with in person activity offered if geographical proximity allows.
Please complete the Expression of Interest Form
The deadline for completing the form is Friday 28 February 2025.
