ITT Compliance Officer
Reporting to:  Head of Admissions
Basic salary: £33,000 to £35,000 depending on experience

Role Overview:

The ITT Compliance Officer is a central role supporting the Recruitment and Admissions Teams to ensure that all eligibility and suitability requirements of the DfE and ESFA are satisfied in relation to both trainees admitted onto an ITT programme and tutors supporting the delivery of training.


Key Responsibilities:

Trainees – TAP, School Direct, Tuition Fee, Assessment Only

Verify that all suitability and eligibility requirements of the DfE and ESFA are satisfied in respect of each trainee admitted to a programme with eQ including:

Identity checks;

  • Undertaking safer recruitment vetting checks in relation to tuition-fee trainees in accordance with the DfE’s requirements in ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’ (including references, enhanced DBS check, TRA check, overseas police check, verification of health and physical capacity, online check, childcare disqualification check);
  • Ensuring that employing schools carry out safer recruitment vetting checks for salaried trainees;
  • Verifying that qualifications meet the eligibility criteria for ITT (GCSEs and degree);
  • Verifying that eligibility criteria for bursary funding are met (qualifications and student support);
  • Checking the equivalency of overseas qualifications with ENIC (including classifications);
  • Reviewing all admissions documents including application form, interview notes and lesson observation.
  • Provide advice to the Recruitment and Admissions teams in relation to eligibility and suitability, including in relation to qualifications.
  • Carry out a check of available eligibility documentation during the admissions process and provide feedback to the Admissions Team.
  • Ensure that full, complete records evidencing eligibility and suitability are retained in eQ’s IT system, including certified copies of all documents.
  • Maintain an up-to-date record of, and report to the Head of Admissions weekly, in relation to the compliance status of all applicants and trainees.
  • Liaise with employing and host schools in relation to safer recruitment requirements, suitability and eligibility.
  • Follow up with the trainee and school, as appropriate, in relation to any outstanding eligibility or suitability documentation.
  • Upon completion of the admissions process, carry out a full audit of every trainee file to ensure eligibility and suitability can be evidenced, and that documentation is secure and genuine.
  • Maintain current safer recruitment training.
  • Keep up to date with all DfE and ESFA guidance and requirements relating to the suitability and eligibility of trainees, and share knowledge with the recruitment and admissions teams.

Tutors

  • Work with the senior leadership team in relation to the recruitment of new tutors to ensure appropriate qualifications and experience;
  • Undertake all required pre-engagement suitability checks in relation to new tutors and collect all necessary pre-engagement documentation and agreements (in accordance with internal process).
  • Ensure that full, complete records of recruitment documentation and pre-engagement checks are retained in eQ’s IT system.
  • Liaise with the Head of Admissions, and the senior leadership team in relation to the compliance status of new tutors and ensure that pre-engagement checks are complete prior to the tutor commencing work.
  • Undertake update checks annually including enhanced DBS and TRA checks.
  • Ensure that certificates of professional indemnity insurance are obtained and current.

Other

  • Support the Recruitment and Admissions teams with projects and work when required.
  • Provide administrative support in relation to the arrangement and facilitation of end-point assessment for apprentices.
  • Monitor and action any requests relating to data privacy received from trainees and tutors.
  • Respond to reference requests.
  • Maintain records of safer recruitment training undertaken by relevant members of staff and arrange update training when necessary.
  • Deliver support and training in relation to eligibility and suitability compliance to members of staff.
  • Identify any risks in the compliance processes and recommend effective solutions.
  • Identify opportunities to improve current processes.

Specific Job Skills:

  • Have a secure knowledge of the DfE’s ITT criteria, the DfE’s statutory guidance ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’ and the ESFA’s Funding Rules

  • IT literate with experience of using new technologies.

Required experience:

  • Previous experience in undertaking compliance and eligibility verification checks essential.
  • Prior experience working in a school or SCITT an advantage.
