The Home Office have published a document setting out further details of the new immigration system.

This provides confirmation of, and more detail on, information we have already shared:

  • the public sector pay thresholds for teachers under the skilled workers route (para 47 and Annex E Tables 28 and 30).
  • pro-rata arrangements for part time teachers under the skilled worker route (para 49). These mean that thresholds for teachers can now be pro-rated as long as the resulting salary meets the minimum floor or £20,480.  This should allow part time teachers in all subjects to obtain a visa if they earn more than £20,480 rather than only those in shortage occupation list subjects, earning above that salary, as previously expected.
  • Confirmation that schools will not be able to sponsor students (para 92) but that the new graduate visa will allow study with a provider who is not a sponsor (Graduate Route from para 93). This should allow SCITTs who are not able to act as sponsors to take on overseas ITT trainees providing they have graduated from a UK HE provider. Note, however, that this route will not have recourse to public funds.
