
Secondary Course Director – Essex Hub
Salary: Leadership scale L9-12 fringe – 0.8 FTE
Hours: 4 days per week – initially Fixed term for 5 terms until August 2026
Date Required: 1st January 2025

We are seeking to appoint an inspirational and highly motivated person who is a specialist in the secondary phase to provide strong and dynamic leadership for our NESTT Essex secondary initial teacher training programmes. The post will be based in Wickford but frequent travel across Essex will be required.
Norfolk, Essex and Suffolk Teacher Training (NESTT) was formed in September 2024 when BEC Teacher Training and Suffolk and Norfolk SCITT merged. NESTT offers popular and individualised routes into initial teacher training across the primary and secondary age phases.
You will work collaboratively with the NESTT Suffolk and Norfolk Secondary Director and lead our Essex secondary provision. You will have:
- successful experience with working with secondary trainee teachers
- A proven track record as an inspirational leader
- A track record of successful teaching within the secondary phase
- A track record in initiative and innovation leading to positive outcomes
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and training skills.

Principal Responsibilities
- To support the Executive Director and in ensuring course content and provision is relevant, of a high quality and in line compliant with DfE criteria
- To work with the Secondary Course Director (Suffolk and Norfolk) to:
- identify and develop opportunities to improve the quality of the provision.
- be jointly responsible for internally moderating Quality Assurance mechanisms
- liaise with relevant members of the Local Authority (LA), DfE and any other external organisations including Ofsted.
- To ensure the course structure is developed, monitored and moderated appropriately being mindful of the Government ITT criteria.
- Undertake research for documents and policies related to all aspects of the course ensuring the correct documents and policies are in place.
- To deliver lectures and monitor the quality of lectures delivered
- To undertake classroom observation, especially to provide additional support when trainees will benefit from this form of intervention and to moderate judgements of school mentors
- To provide written feedback to mentors on the quality of observational writing on a termly basis, setting individual targets
- To attend interviews to moderate the quality of the selection process
- To deliver mentor training sessions on skills in writing observations, giving feedback and setting challenging targets as per the NESTT Mentor Development Programme
Advisory
- To provide advice to trainee, mentors, Headteacher on course programme
Pastoral
- To support welfare of trainees
- To support headteachers and mentors in schools during placement visits
Research
- To undertake research requested by Executive Director to improve the quality and rigour of provision
