Teach Computing

Start learning with Teach Computing and develop your skill set

The widespread school closures have created new challenges for teachers of all career stages. We can support trainees to build on the hard work and progress they have made in their training, and give them the tools and confidence to prepare for the classroom.

The Computer Science Accelerator Programme

This free training programme is perfect for trainee teachers of computer science who want to enhance their current skill set and benefit from the expertise of experienced educators to prepare for the classroom. It also provides trainees of other subjects the opportunity to train to teach a second subject and go beyond their specialism.

For trainees of computing science, the flexible training programme can help trainees to gain the confidence to teach this high demand subject across the curriculum, and tailor their learning to their development needs. We also offer pathways to support trainees through their learning programme, whether they are looking to upskill yourself in particular areas of the curriculum, or feel less confident with the theory side.

With the increasing demand for digital skills, now is a great time for trainees of other subjects to start to develop their subject knowledge in computer science. This programme can help them increase their versatility as a qualified teacher, as well as their opportunities for further employment. There is a specific pathway for trainee teachers of other subjects, which offers a broad look at different elements of computing, and can help them start their journey towards increasing their teaching capacity.

The programme offers flexible, short modules, which are available online via the FutureLearn platform and remotely through daily live sessions delivered over the course of a week. As well as giving trainees the opportunity to fit their learning around other commitments, all our courses are quality assured and mapped to the curriculum in England, so will help them to apply the latest best practice. They will also be able to collaborate with others on their course, both online and offline, through meaningful tasks, discussions and access to resources.

Our team of Computer Science Champions are also on-hand throughout their learning to provide mentoring and one-to-one support as they need it.

Once the trainee has successfully complete the programme, they are eligible for a bursary of £920, to be paid to their school or college once they gain employment (state-funded English education only). This will be payable when claimed within one academic year of gaining QTS.
