Tes Institute is a leading provider of online and in-school teacher training and development courses. We have a wealth of experience in the education sector and our School Direct Initial Teacher Training (ITT) course is accredited by the DfE. In July 2022, we received an overall Ofsted grade of ‘Good’ for our high-quality curriculum, collaborative work across partnerships and pathway tutoring.


About the role

We are currently looking for Pathway Tutors to support our trainees and apprentices across our partnership schools in Cornwall, Herefordshire, Kent, Norfolk, Suffolk and Sussex.

Our Pathway Tutors are instrumental to the success of our course, in supporting the trainee or apprentice and their school, and leading them through the training programme.

Tutors will be required to provide regular feedback on trainees/apprentices’ submissions on our online platform, Tes Learn, as well as supporting their development through formative assessment in their placement schools, carrying out five school visits over the training year.


Skills and experience

You should hold qualified teacher status (QTS) and have:

  • Experience of working in a leadership position within an education setting (typically in a school or a wider organisation that provides support to schools such as a local authority or academy chain in an ‘education advisor’ capacity)
  • Experience of working with trainee teachers and/or ECTs, including providing advice and support to trainees to enable them to meet the Teachers’ Standards by the end of the academic year
  • Experience of observing teaching and learning and providing expert verbal and written feedback to develop practice
  • Experience of working professionally with school staff at all levels from headteacher to trainee teacher in order to quality assure the course implementation, support school colleagues, and ensure that training is of a consistently high quality
  • Knowledge of the Core Content Framework for ITT (desirable not essential as training will be provided)

Full training on the Core Content Framework for ITT, our ITT course and the role of a Pathway Tutor will be provided.

Pathway Tutors are appointed as consultants and will be allocated trainees and apprentices in their region.
