About the role

Founded on the long-standing, well regarded Bath Spa University PGCE, the School of Education provides the SCITT PGCE award to a growing number of SCITT providers.  Whilst the SCITT provides the training that leads to a recommendation for QTS, this role relates to Bath Spa University’s provision of the academic award of PGCE.  In order to support trainees in understanding the value of critical awareness of professional practice at Masters level, the post holder will deliver: seminars to groups of trainees, individual tutorials, online support and assignment assessment.  The post holder will be fully supported by the Programme Leader, whilst having the chance to develop their own research interests in education.  The work of the SCITT PGCE programme is based at a range of sites.

About you (requirements)

You will have QTS, a first degree and a higher degree (or working towards a higher degree) and will be confident in teaching at Masters level and working with trainee teachers.  Experience of working in a school or other educational institution is essential.  Experience in the Early Years, primary and/or secondary age phase is essential, but you will also have knowledge and understanding of learning pedagogy and current thinking in wider educational issues.

You will have excellent communication skills, a collaborative and enthusiastic approach to teacher education and be a committed team player.  You will be a confident communicator and user of IT.  Ideally, you will also have experience of leading and supporting online teaching and learning.  You must be a flexible thinker and be willing to engage in the development of this area of teacher education.

About us

Bath Spa University is focused on creative enterprise and guided by our four values of respect, inclusivity, collaboration and sustainability. We teach around 8,000 students on a set of campuses around Bath, with most being located at Newton Park, including a listed Georgian house and grounds, or Locksbrook Road, our new city-centre art and design campus.  Our research centres focus on creative industries and humanities.

Our purpose is to challenge our students and staff to realise their talent and thrive, for their own benefit and for the wider good. By doing this we will think and make the world better.

The School of Education has a long tradition of providing outstanding Initial Teacher Education.  The Primary and Secondary PGCE programmes were judged by Ofsted to be ‘Outstanding’ in 2015-16.  We are committed to working in close partnership with SCITTs, to prepare teachers that are committed to the educational achievement of all children and young people; our staff are proactive in responding to new opportunities and building partnerships.  The School of Education provides a focus for research and developments in Teacher Education.
