Director of Education – Proxima Education

We’re hiring a Director of Education to help us build cutting-edge, evidence-based tools that will be used to train the next generation of teachers.

This is a flexible, fully remote role, with full-time equivalent pay of £65,000 to £75,000 (DOE), but we’re also very happy to consider candidates who wish to work part-time.

Our ideal applicant will have experience training teachers and creating evidence-based resources – and be excited about building something new!

About Proxima

Proxima launched in 2022 and has already worked with over 3,000 new teachers. We build digital approximations – cutting edge tools that bring evidence to life and enable teachers to practise and think about teaching in a safe, low-stakes environment.

What you’ll do

We’re a small team and you’ll have a wide variety of responsibilities, including:

  • Develop our bank of authentic, classroom scenarios, designed to bridge the gap between theory and practice.
  • Create supplementary resources to support teacher educators, including concept maps and glossaries, demonstrating the links to the evidence base.
  • Help teacher educators get the most out of Proxima by developing training resources and delivering training to tutors and facilitators.
  • Deliver live training sessions using Proxima, both online and in-person, to novice and experienced teachers.
  • Maximise our impact. We want approximations to become the norm within teacher education – you will help us find the path to make this happen.

Who you are

We’re looking for someone with a deep understanding of teacher education and a passion to build new tools to support teachers and teacher educators.

  • You’ve been a classroom teacher.
  • You have experience training teachers.
  • You have a deep understanding of the evidence base related to teaching and keep up to date on the latest research.
  • You’re a clear and concise writer.
  • You’re comfortable with technology and love to learn new tools.
  • You’re a self-starter.

Why work with us

  • We’re creating something new. We’re creating a new category of training and professional development for teachers.
  • We’re having an impact. In 2024-25, over 10% of all teachers trained in England will use digital approximations created by Proxima.
  • We’re fully remote. We collaborate in real-time every day, but we all work from the comfort of our own homes.
  • We’re a small team, on purpose. We don’t want to build a bureaucracy. We believe the best things are created by small groups of motivated people working together.
  • There’s more to come. We’re starting to build approximations for ECTs, mentors and subject specialists, and are exploring how we can use AI to enhance our work.

Pay and contract

The compensation for this role is £65,000 to £75,000, dependent on experience (pro-rata for part-time).

We’re a very small distributed team, so we work together as independent contractors. You should only apply for this position if you’re comfortable being self-employed.

The initial contract term will be for 1 year, with the option to extend at the end of it.

How to apply

Send a CV and short cover letter explaining why you’re a great fit for this role to Robbie Coleman robbie@proxima.education by 5pm, Monday 20th May 2024.
