Overview

From September 2024, all ITT programmes in England must include a component of intensive training and practice (ITP). Described as a way of bridging the gap between the theory and practice of teaching, ITP intends to be an intensive placement experience that allows opportunities for trainees to practice fundamental components of their curriculum, and to receive immediate and targeted feedback. To support providers to design and deliver high-quality training, the National Institute of Teaching (NIoT) piloted four different approaches to ITP, evaluated by an independent team of researchers.

At this session, the NIoT’s executive director of research, Calum Davey, sets out what we did, what we learned and some recommendations that we hope will be useful to providers who are designing and piloting their own ITP elements.
